Kodistskaro village, Kaspi Municipality, Shida Kartli - November 16, 2021, at 12:20 a.m. Through USAID Zrda Activity and JSC Partnership Fund Start-up Georgia Program support the Used Motor Oil Refinery UNIVERSAL GROUP GERGIA LTD was opened in Kodistskaro village of the Kaspi Municipality located along the Administrative Boundary Line (ABL) with the occupied territory of South Ossetia.
The Used Motor Oil Refinery UNIVERSAL GROUP GERGIA LTD construction started in 2020 and was implemented through the financial support from USAID Zrda Activity and JSC Partnership Fund Start-up Georgia Program. Peter Wiebler, USAID/Georgia Mission Director, together with Solomon Pavliashvili, Deputy Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture of Georgia, Executive Director of the JSC Partnership Fund David Saganelidze, Director of Start-up Georgia Giorgi Lomidze and USAID/Zrda Activity Chief of Party Ketevan Tchumburidze officially open the facility.
By implementing the Used Motor Oil Refinery project, USAID’s Zrda Activity and JSC Partnership Fund through its Start-up Georgia are investing to establish the recycling facility for used motor oils, including engine, hydraulic and gearbox oils, that is in full compliance with the state or international environmental standards. The facility is the first of its kind in Georgia that by using an innovative technology “cracking” (fractioning of used motor oils at high temperature extract) produces 4 types of products (Diesel, fuel oil, higher-octane fuel and methane gas). The materials will be sourced locally, and major sales market will be Georgia. The Facility will employee local residents of the village.
Overall, during 2019-2021, USAID Zrda Activity and JSC Partnership Fund Start-up Georgia Program jointly financed five projects with the total investment amount of up to GEL 2,500.000.
